ZEPPELIN'S CELEBRATION DAY A TWO-DISC MELTDOWN OF LIVE LED FOR YOUR HEAD

Celebration Day
2012

509 Miles To Go

For Celebration Day, Led Zeppelin had one night to relight the reunion fire that the music world had been fanning for years.

In honor of late Atlantic Records Founder and President Ahmet Ertugun, Robert Plant, Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones and Jason Bonham burned down the 02 Arena in London with a performance for the ages.

Though recorded on December 10, 2007, Celebration Day wasn't released until November 2012. Like the live show featured, it is more than worth the wait.

The 16 songs cover each of their studio releases save for In Through The Out Door and all of the performances are extraordinary.

The then 59-year-old Plant roars through Zeppelin standards such as Black Dog, Whole Lotta Love and Rock And Roll like no other lion in winter, without even a hint of self-parody of his much younger self from their previous live album/concert film 1976's The Song Remains The Same.

Jones jumps into the spotlight on the 9-minute version of No Quarter from Houses Of The Holy and holds serve with his keyboards to Plant's vocals and Page's guitar on Trampled Under Foot.

John "Bonzo" Bonham's progeny Jason ably fills his father's seat at the drum kit with a power and muscularity that would have made the late percussion legend proud.

Nonetheless, Celebration Day belongs to Page who scorches the guitar strings on each and every number, especially on the more open jams - For Your Life, In My Time Of Dying, Nobody's Fault But Mine, Since I've Been Loving You and his signature Dazed And Confused.

If this is the final flight for Led Zeppelin, this collection provides a reason and a way to celebrate their live legacy forever.
