JACK WHITE FLIES A ONE-MAN ZEPPELIN COMBINING PLANT, PAGE AND JONES

Under Great White Northern Lights
2010

481 Miles To Go

Jack White flies a one-man Led Zeppelin with Detroit musical muscle reincarnated from the souls of Robert Plant, Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones.

As with his English compatriots, the spirits of Blind Willie McTell and Robert Johnson strum the strings and whisper songs to White as well.

Whether solo or as a member of The White Stripes, The Raconteurs, or The Dead Weather, everything White touches turns to primitive blues gold.

De Stijl
2000
Under Great Northern White Lights, the soundtrack to the band's 2007 Canadian concert tour film, turns him loose on guitar, vocals and keyboards with drummer Meg White bashing away as best she can to keep up.

The live settings allow for even more freedom and virtually every song reaps the rough rewards of the unhinged arrangements.

De Stijl, the band's second release, is a 13-song collection bathed in red, white and black.

It shows off White's ability to play acoustic blues and tortured electric guitar storms in equal measures.

As impressive as De Stijl is, it only hints at how high White's blues-fueled Zeppelin ultimately will rise.
